The Challenge

Labour shortage and rising operational costs

Across Europe, farmers face a growing rural labour shortage, especially during busy planting and harvest seasons. At the same time, increasing costs and sustainability demands require smarter, more efficient machinery solutions.

Many farms depend on large, high horsepower tractors to complete tasks quickly, but this can drive up fuel consumption, soil compaction, and total cost per hectare. To remain profitable, farmers need solutions that maximise productivity while reducing reliance on manpower and heavy machinery.

Solution

M7004 Autonomous

At Agritechnica 2025, Kubota presents the M7004 Autonomous, a pioneering tractor concept designed to help farmers overcome labour shortages, enhance productivity, and operate more sustainably. Combining Kubota’s proven reliability with advanced automation, the M7004 Autonomous represents the next leap in precision agriculture.

The M7004 Autonomous operates within a structured, safe, and easy to manage workflow:

  1. Field survey – Physical boundaries and obstacles are mapped by a certified surveyor.
  2. Profile creation – Tractor and implement profiles are created independently.
  3. Mission planning – Using Kubota’s PAM platform, operators define A–B lines, passes, and start/end points.
  4. Mission execution – The plan is uploaded to the tractor, and work begins autonomously with supervision via remote control.

This approach allows farmers to move seamlessly from manual to autonomous operation while maintaining full safety oversight.

Benefits

What are the benefits?

  • - This system allows one operator to extend daily working hours.

  • - Reduce the need for temporary labour, and optimise field efficiency

  • - By combining smaller, lighter implements with intelligent automation, the concept enables a shift from 250–300 hp tractors down to 150–175 hp models,
