AI Powered vision
The Challenge
Specialty crops need a smarter approach
While precision farming has already transformed large scale crops such as wheat and corn, specialty crops including grapes, blueberries and tree nuts have lagged behind in automation.
Each plant in these crops grows and ripens differently. Variations in fruit colour, size and maturity make it difficult to monitor growth or predict yield accurately using conventional technologies.
Farmers rely heavily on manual inspection and experience, which makes managing large areas of specialty crops time consuming and labour intensive.
Kubota recognised that to support these growers, a new approach was needed, one capable of seeing every plant in detail and turning that vision into actionable insight.
Solution
AI powered insight for every plant
Bloomfield’s system combines high resolution cameras with artificial intelligence to analyse every plant individually. Cameras can be mounted on farm machinery such as tractors, utility vehicles, sprayers, capturing detailed images of fruit and foliage as the equipment moves through the field, even under changing light conditions.
The captured images are processed by AI models that evaluate fruit size, colour and maturity, generating precise data on crop health and yield potential.
This enables farmers to plan harvests more effectively, allocate labour more efficiently, and improve overall quality and productivity.
Benefits
What are the benefits
- By integrating Bloomfield’s technology into its operations, Kubota is expanding from traditional mechanisation into intelligent, data driven agriculture.
- The combination of Kubota’s global reach and engineering expertise with Bloomfield’s AI driven insights opens new possibilities for specialty crop growers.
- Farmers can now access accurate, real time information to make smarter management decisions, reduce waste and ensure stable, high quality yields.
It is a step towards a more connected, efficient and sustainable farming system where machines not only perform tasks, but also observe, analyse and support decision making.
