The funding will enable Kilter to continue to scale internationally while enhancing its technology. In parallel, Kubota and Kilter have also announced a partnership agreement for distribution via Kubota’s own dealer networks in Germany and the Netherlands in 2026.
As viable herbicide options decline and weed resistance increases, weed control is becoming more challenging for farmers in Europe and worldwide. Adopting more sustainable practices and improving yields have become essential to ensure the continuity and resilience of food production.
Kilter has developed a unique, autonomous, AI-driven weed control solution with 6×6 mm grid accuracy, enabling its AX-1 robot to apply single droplets of herbicide that precisely target weeds. This technology significantly reduces herbicide application and prevents crop injury, ultimately improving yields by promoting healthier soils and crops.
“We believe that Kilter offers an outstanding solution to help farmers manage weeds more efficiently and sustainably. We are excited to work alongside Kilter and our co-investors to support the company’s next phase of growth. This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to strategically investing in and actively supporting innovative startups from Kubota’s global perspective”. – Miquel Albareda, Manager Corporate Development, Kubota Corporation
Kilter’s journey began in 2015 as a robotics project within Adigo Mechatronics, an innovation and design company in Norway. Recognizing the potential of its nozzle technology, Kilter spun out as an independent company in 2020. With nearly a decade of development behind it, the company has built a strong presence in Norway, Sweden, and Germany, and is now ready to expand further.
Kubota’s investment is a strong validation of our technology and long-term vision. Together, we are accelerating international scale-up and building a robust platform for the next phase of Kilter’s growth.” – Anders Brevik, Managing Director, Kilter
The collaboration aims to build strong relationships with dealers and customers across Europe. Kilter’s ultra-precise weeding solution is designed for high-value crop farmers and currently supports more than 15 crops. Future plans include expanding the pilot to additional crops and further strengthening distribution in Germany and the Netherlands.
About Kilter
Kilter is a Norwegian start-up producing an AX-1 autonomous, modular and ultra-high precision spot sprayer for weeding in vegetables. At Kilter, they are on a mission to return the land we borrow and restore balance to our planet. When Kilter first launched the AX-1 in 2021, the goal was clear: make weeding more precise, more sustainable, and far less dependent on pesticides. Since then, the robot has delivered on its promise—not just in Norway, but now also in Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands. Website: https://www.kiltersystems.com/
